Buckle Up Kids in Cars is Division 4 Lt. Governor Raymond Handy's Signature Project for 2003-2004.  Rommell Cooks is the Project Consultant and Coordinator, 816-329-3900.

Traffic crashes are the leading cause of death to kids.  One reason is that most kids ride unbuckled or improperly restrained.  Even the most safety-conscious parents often are not aware of the need for booster seats or the danger their children face when improperly restrained in adult seat belts.  More than 40% of children who die or suffer incapacitating injuries in vehicle crashes are completely unrestrained.

Division 4 clubs are conducting public relations campaigns in their local community to promote consistent use of child safety seats and booster seats for all child occupants of moving vehicles.  Surveys are conducted prior to and after the campaign to evaluate the success of the campaign.
