YOU ARE INVITED TO BE A PART OF THE

YOUNG CHILDREN’S COUNCIL OF THE HEARTLAND

TO ENLIST SUPPORT FOR SERVICE PROVIDERS, AGENCIES, SPONSORS, AND VOLUNTEERS

SERVING PRENATAL THROUGH AGE 5 IN THE GREATER METRO KANSAS CITY REGION

DEFINITION: The YOUNG CHILDREN’S COUNCIL OF THE HEARTLAND is a coalition of organizations in the community that agree to work together to identify the needs of young children and cooperate in finding resources and developing programs to address those needs. Its purpose is neither to judge current programs nor redirect current resources, but to identify the common concerns of child-serving agencies and find the best ways to help young children in the community.

MEMBERSHIP: Members of the Council will be inclusive to government agencies, non-profit organizations and schools, companies and corporations wanting to assist in serving families and children, for-profit agencies and schools, elected officials, places of faith, experts, educators, news media, and representatives from Kiwanis clubs.

THE KIWANIS COMMITMENT: Kiwanis International and the 25+ Greater Kansas City Metro Kiwanis Clubs all have an on-going commitment in its Young Children: Priority One program to address the needs of children, prenatal through age five. There are many organizations and agencies that serve needs of young children. Kiwanis Clubs want to work effectively in coordination with these groups. To this end, this Council was established in 1998 as one of the first in the country.

MISSION STATEMENT: The YOUNG CHILDREN’S COUNCIL OF THE HEARTLAND will identify the needs of children, prenatal through age five, in the metropolitan area and seek the best means to address those needs. It will involve all organizations and community leaders willing to work together on this service focus. Our activities include needs analysis, resource development, advocacy, support, and development.
