News from the Division Council Meeting October 17, 2005

  • METRO KANSAS CITY KIWANIS COUNCIL  Dick Snedden and Whit Kirk shared the “Kiwanis for Katrina’s Children” project and a possibility for the funds to be directed to the K Bar B Youth Ranch North of New Orleans.  They also shared that the project at the NASCAR Race Track brought in $1,500 to go toward the project.  The Kiwanis phone line will now be answered by Gary Goebel. The Metro Council will take responsibility for the expenses, relieving the Downtown Club of that responsibility.

  • KIWANIS DUES STRUCTURE  Harold Craven and Howard Bell gave a presentation regarding the new member dues and the existing member dues structure, as they have changed this year.

    • The new member fee is now $55 ($50- to International and $5 for MO-ARK), which pays for the rest of the billing year. The new member fee includes a pin, membership card, membership certificate, a supplies catalog and the Kiwanis magazine.

    • The normal membership yearly dues is payable once a year rather than semi-annually.  The billing date for dues depends on the club charter date.  International dues remains at $63.90 ($42 Int'l dues, $10 Kiwanis magazine, $11.90 Insurance) and $20 for MO-ARK district [$1 convention, $3 newsletter, and $16 district dues].

  • GOVERNOR’S BANQUET  Reservations need to be made by October 31, 2005 to Cheryl Anderson for $20.00 each, or $25.00 after that date.  First Lady Mary Lee reminded us of Rosetta Dubose’s service project of Food for Kids through the Arkansas Rice Depot.  Donations of backpacks and food should be brought to the banquet for presentation to the Governor and First Lady Dubose.

  • Club Presidents - be sure to have your treasurer send a check to the Lt. Governor Elect to cover the Lt. Governor expenses plus other suggested contributions shown here.

The annual division worship service was held on September 11th at the Swope Parkway United Christian Church.  Twenty four Kiwanians attended together.  The service was quite inspirational, and was enhanced by an remarkable trumpet solo by Mid-town's own Sylvester Heath, accompanied by Calvin Whitmore, pianist.  The congregation also enjoyed a spirited rendition of "Every time I feel the Spirit" by the Mid-town Kiwanis Male Chorus led by George Davis.  Lt.
